I had a large cavity under one of my fillings. Xray made it look as though it would be a root canal. The dentist did all the tests to see if it was possible to just do a filling. In the end, the dentist made every effort to do a filling, and saved me 1000 bucks by doing so.
All in all, this dentist is ethical and kind. The procedure was painless.
