I understand appointments are important to keep. In the two years I’ve been a patient, I have never cancelled an appointment. I’m a typical every 6 month, usual cleaning patient. Unfortunately this weekend I came down with a wicked head cold. I called this morning at 0730 to notify them that I wouldn’t be able to attend my 0900 appointment because I was feeling under the weather. I also said I know your company protocol is to not come in if feeling sick. The lady answering the phone was so rude to me about. First she snapped at me and said that I should have called over the weekend and left a message (after I had already told her I was battling a severe head cold). Then she says that they are booked until April. April??? I said currently I could not schedule that and she just said okay and hung up. First of all, after that phone call, I feel so ashamed for cancelling. I can’t help that I got sick. I never do. Second, to be treated with such insensitivity is inhumane. That woman has no idea how awful I’ve been feeling all weekend and to be told I should have called, makes it seem like it’s the least I could do. However, eating and taking care of myself this weekend was all I had the energy to do because I live alone. I shouldn’t have to apologize to a company because I was feeling to ill to make a call when THEY felt would be appropriate notice. I did give notice. Please consider giving your receptionist sensitivity training when dealing with people. I understand we are all working and understaffed , but that doesn’t entitle people who work in customer service to be rude.
