Horizon Dental Center

This is is a revision of an earlier review. As a cash customer without dental insurance Dr. S must have also thought I didn't have a clue. I've had a lot of dental work and make every attempt to keep current on cleanings and such so I have a good understanding of how things work when it comes to my care. When Dr. S... said there was nothing to do but pull the tooth something told me this was not true (AND GIVEN HE NEVER SHOWED ME THE XRAY IN THREE VISITS! Any other dentist I've seen always showed me the xrays as they explained what's needed.) Upon going to another dentist for cleaning and exam I was shown the xray and told there was plenty of good tooth remaining to place a crown on. It's been a while and all is well without losing the tooth and paying more than double the expense for bridge placement.

Appointments are on time, Dr. Sheldon and his staff are always on the ball and do a great job. Easy to recommend this place. Great care, very nice people, very professional.

Hygienist is wonderful. Had to wait almost 1/2 hour. Appointment not the same for setting the đentist as they gave me when I left.

I was a patient at this clinic for a few years, as I moved to a new neighborhood and wanted to find a dentist close to my home. When I first started coming here, the hygienist and the dentist were very caring and friendly (why I give it two stars). The office seemed to change, however, when my dentist left the practice due to relocation.

This office uses a lot of state-of-the-art technology. They remind patients of their appointments by phone, e-mail AND text message. They have TV's in every treatment station and digital x-rays. My biggest issue was their cavity detection tool called a Diagnodent, which the hygienist used to detect change in a tooth's surface (decay) using a laser light. This office seems to use the Diagnodent as a money making opportunity. In the two years that I was a patient there, I had eight cavities filled. To me, that seemed like a LOT. Once they detected a cavity with this machine, there was a minimum two month wait to get another appointment to have them filled. The only way to get in sooner is for a root canal or crown procedure. These procedures, of course, cost more, which makes it worth their while to see you sooner!

I had major issues with two fillings done by Dr. Mollie McCabe. She placed fillings in teeth #2 and 3. I felt uneasy when I was in the dental chair. Rather than focusing on my teeth, she was more interested in talking to her assistant about their Saturday evening plans. Within a week of the procedure, I called several times requesting an emergency appointment due to the amount of pain I was in. Even though I was an established patient, Horizon was always unwilling or unable to see me. The receptionist was extremely rude, and made no effort to ask me about my pain or consult with Dr. McCabe or her assistant. She told me that I would have to live with the pain until they could get me an appointment a week later, or I go to Emergency Dental. I did neither - I contacted a relative's dentist, who (thankfully) was able to see me the same day. The new dentist replaced the filling in tooth #3, which resolved the pain. He also had to crown tooth #2 a few years later because the half composite/half amalgam filling that Dr. McCabe placed also failed. When I asked my new dentist about the Diagnodent, he said their clinic doesn't use it because their office believes in a more minimally invasive approach, and the Diagnodent produces a lot of false positive results.

I will not be returning to this office. If you do go to Horizon Dental and are diagnosed with a high number of cavities, consider seeking a second opinion to avoid any unnecessary treatment.

I have been a patient at horizon for 40 years...norm is a great dentist ...Always making sure im comfortable and not in pain...the hygienists are great...i have a phobia about needles and related procedures..they will cater to my needs so i make it in every 6 months.

Always a great place and have been going there for years! They make the dental experience more pleasant with their friendly staff.

I went it to have a tooth extracted. They proceeded to extract the tooth that I didn’t have an issue with convincing me this was the issue. After an hour, two doctors trying to dig out said tooth, and a 500$ bill I will be shopping around for a different dentist.

As a new patient, they made me feel comfortable and listened to me explain my dental concerns but wasn't able to get me an appointment sooner than June.

Staff is nice and helpful. I've been going here for about a year and during the pandemic they were always understanding about money being tight and willing to work with me on payment.

All I have to say, is that this dental office is absolutely amazing! Dr Miyares is wonderful! The staff are welcoming as well! Anyone who wants great service and feel comfortable, then this is the place to go for all of your dental needs!
