Hawaii Family Dental - Kihei

Had a appointment with Dr. Jefferey Thomas at the Kihei location for a small cavity. Dr Thomas is wonderful. He cleaned out my cavity and patched my tooth. Jennifer, her assistance was very caring and compassionate with my procedure. Five stair for Dr. Thomas and Jennifer.

Ive seen two hygienists now (Heather and Heaven) and Dr. Thomas. These three have been great. My experience with the administrative staff has been less than stellar. Confusion on billing, not super friendly, prompt or professional. But overall it's an ok Clinic. My insurance takes it and it's close to home so that's what's keeping me there.

Dr. Thomas is always gentle and thorough, I highly recommend him. My dental assistant, Heaven, was very patient and understanding regarding my special requests. If you HAVE to visit the dentist, this is a great office to go to!

Everybody in the office were very professional, friendly and accommodating.It sure has a family atmosphere. I would recommend this Dental clinic to everyone.

I made general routine checkup appointments for my daughter and I. My daughter has double insurance coverage but somehow I still ended up paying out of pocket. I was overcharged for my services and they refused to issue a refund, I had paid in cash, but instead transferred my credit balance to my daughter's balance due. This seemed odd to me. For what should have been a simple routine visit it turned into a huge hassle. 3 different appointments; checkups, xrays, and cleanings, all of which I had to take time off from work and take my daughter out of school for. The front office staff was less than friendly which made this even more difficult to deal with. They spent more time visiting and talking to each other than acknowledging me and I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcomed.

My daughter saw an orthodontist on another visit. We were told they would check on different options and find out what insurance would cover and get back to me in a week or so. I never heard back. Four months later and my second time of calling them to follow up I got huge attitude from the front office staff. She argued with me saying she had no idea what to tell me because it wasn't her that I had talked to before. Finally after 5 minutes of her bickering, she was clearly irritated with me and the situation which I found offensive since it was their error to begin with. She told me she would call me back which she did in about 10 minutes. Her answer was that our insurance will not cover any orthodontic care. I tried to tell her that I knew for a fact that we did have coverage and she said she wasn't able to find anything. My guess is probably because she didn't actually check at all. I was never given any prices for braces.

Back of the house staff is great. Front of the house staff is terrible.

I think That Hawaiian Family Dental in Kihei, and Especially Doctor Jeffery Thomas, are the best and most professional and friendly Dentists I have ever been to. They put me at ease and am anyways treated with patience and respect. Btw, I am a 67 year old man with ptsd. They go above and beyond! Ps, Ive only once before written one of these things , so Believe Dis!! Aloha

They Rock!!! Christy the hygienist is the best hands down. I've been going here for 13years and have seen a few hygienists over the years and she is the best of all. Please never leave!!! Give her a raise!!...staff and the doctor have been great also.they all make you feel very comfortable

I had an OK experience as a first-time, however, when I broke a tooth the receptionist who answered the phone was very useless and didn't want to give me an appointment at all. It appears she had diagnosed my broken tooth from a previous visit's record six months ago. I was able to get a appointment later in the week, however that is not ideal for a broken tooth and most dentists make exceptions to see you the same day. So, I next went in personally to see if anyone could see me sooner at another location and the receptionist asked me to call and find out, instead of doing her job. I called their kahului location and they provided outstanding customer service and were able to see me the same day.

Kailey is the most gentle hygienist I have ever been to! Every movement is soft and calm and comforting (if you can be comforted in a dental chair). She explains everything she is doing, and is very knowledgeable and helpful with ideas on how you can improve your dental health at home! I used to HATE the dentist, I don't mind so much anymore with Hawaii Family Dental and Kaylie and Dr. Barba.

The morning of my appointment I was running a tiny bit behind, and then got lost on my way to the office. The staff were so friendly and kind and did not cancel my appointment. I was treated with kindness and respect right from the moment I stepped into the office. I even had the dentist call me personally the evening before to see if I had any questions prior to my examination. Very professional and personal staff.
