Hawaii Family Dental - Kona

Awesome people. Our daughter had an emergency on New Year’s Eve. Hawaii family dental were the only practice that helped out of the 20 we called, fitting us despite being really busy, and we’re wonderful from start to finish.

Dr. Barry Sullivan no showed twice on me! The first time he blew off my appointment with him, I was told he left sick. I ended up having to pay $45 out of pocket to see another dentist for my 6 month cleaning exam.

This morning I had another appointment scheduled with Dr. Barry Sullivan. Since this office has made careless mistakes in the past, I decided to call the office and make certain Dr Barry would be in. When I called at 9:50am I was assured he would be in the office for my appointment at 2pm.

I drove over 80 miles and 3 hours round trip only to discover Dr. Barry Sullivan once again went home sick. The incompetent staff could not find the decency to call me to let me know the doctor would not be in.

I requested to see the office manager, Jessica. I waited 23 minutes for Jessica, only to have her not show up.

Since Dr Barry seems to be sick quite often, I suspect he’s either the sickest dentist on Hawaii Island or a chronic drug abuser. Either way, my trust in this pathetic office has been broken.

Would not recommend.

Originally I went in for a new implant procedure this time, but after assessing a complication with the previous implant, Dr. Oakley changed the treatment plan and addressed the present problem impromptu. He and his staff were highly professional and efficient, which made me feel very confident throughout the whole treatment. Dr. Oakley even called me in the evening to find out how I was doing! That is an amazing bedside manner.

The treatment result is very good so far: The problem has been taken care of and I am not experiencing any pain. My best compliment to Dr. Oakley and the staff.

You cannot go wrong by visiting Hawaii Family Dental. Wonderful experience. Friendly, and helpful.

I was very grateful to get an appointment after I missed mine. Regina really went to bat for me and so did Theresa who called me once there was an opening. The service and integrity was impeccable. I got out of there in a timely manner and felt like I had a good experience.

I greatly appreciate the professional, but friendly attitude of my dental team. The attention to every detail and desire to meet my dental needs is what I have consistently experienced when under the care of Dr. Coleen and Jeff.

Some receptionists are very rude and impatient. I also do not recommend going here if you want to see a orthodontist. I wanted to reschedule my daughters ortho appointment in November and they didn’t have any available till January! Dr. TinHan is also rude and doesn’t seem to have much patience.

Dr. Barry Sullivan is an outstanding, down to earth Dentist. The reception personnel and all the assistants are wonderful. Patients are moved through the clinic quickly in assembly line style. It has all been this way since I first wrote a review about 2 years ago. However- here a warning:
Make sure that right before getting in the chair you know exactly how much it is going to cost and that your insurance covers it, otherwise you might get a tachycardia attack like I did when suddenly you are told YOU personally owe for the procedure.

So thrilled with Dr Strommer! He was able to find and fix as a cosmetic issue that was undetectable by other dentists. He also takes the time to throughly explain and answer questions. Additionally the hygienists have been excellent! The front desk staff when I recently went was also much friendlier than in the past.

Another great visit with my dentist. I'm so pleased with the work they've done for me. I really appreciate the care demonstrated regarding how I'm feeling throughout the process as I am very sensitive to the numbing agents. Best dental experiences in my 60 years. Mahalo for your exceptional care!
