I went to this dentist office for the $19.00 exam and x-ray looking for the cause of a major tooth pain I had for weeks. While I was waiting in the chair to see the doctor I heard the people behind me say "but he doesn't have insurance, ooh?!" in a negative tone like that was a problem for them. They found a lot of problems that needed to be fixed or "My teeth will fall out!!" (exact words used by 2 different office staff during 2 separate visits). Being suddenly shocked and scared of my teeth falling out, I agreed to the suggested treatment plan. Due to a lack of dental insurance, I was given the price of $4,059 (and that's with a discount). Payment due before they do any work. I asked if there's anything on the bill that could be dropped to lower price that is not absolutely necessary, but the answer was no everything is required for your treatment. (After I got home I realized they charged me full price for work that was done during the initial $19 exam.) Visit #1. Cleaning required before any work could be started $200 and the oral hygienist recommended a new fancy electric toothbrush, pharma grade toothpaste and mouth rinse (extra $200 on my bill). I required a root canal with a temp crown (~$3,000 3x national average) and a follow up visit for a permanent crown as well as 3 cavities to be filled ($644 paid on visit #2). The doctor that performed my root canal was very nice and good at what he did. I didn't feel a thing. Temp crown fitting wasn't bad. On visit #2 for permanent crown and cavities that doctor was ok. Crown fitting went fine but the cavities hurt more then the root canal did. While the doctor was drilling she noticed that 2 of the cavities were worse than expected and should have been root canals. She was the same doctor that performed my initial exam and planned out my treatment plan during visit #1. Cavities complete and super numbed mouth I had a 3rd visit scheduled for another $200 cleaning that I canceled due to a lack of funds. Again the phrase "You need this or your teeth will fall out" was used to try and coerce me into "treatment". I declined and canceled the appointment. Walked away with a $4,000.00 charge on my card for the work performed and my cavities still ache while I write this review weeks after. I don't think I would use this Dentist office again. Attached are scans of my "treatment plan"

FRAUD AND EXTORTION: that's the business model of this location. Part 1) Fraud: you have to be extremely vigilant to what they put in your treatment plan. For my wife's treatment They listed a tooth paste and electric toothbrush for $200 which is outrageous and was not needed, but I caught that one. What I didn't catch was 14 injections of Atridox for $85 a piece (that's $1190) and NO it was not covered by the insurance. On the day when my wife was supposed to get those injections she only stayed with the hygienist for 20 minutes and she didn't get the Atridox injections. The hygienist applied something directly to the teeth and then rushed my wife to another room to see the dentist for another work. This was a regular cleaning. No special Atridox Antibiotic applied. I looked up Atridox online and I found out that it must be injected deep in the gum pockets. It cannot be applied to the teeth directly. When confronting the office manager and the hygienist with this they said we did apply Atridox but we apply it to the teeth and it slides down into the gum pockets. I consulted with another dentist and he said that's the dumbest BS he has ever heard. Atridox must be injected deep in the gum pockets or else it's useless. How was I forced to pay for it? Part 2) EXTORTION: they take advantage of your situation and tell you, you must pay upfront before we will even let you in the office. My wife had a tooth extraction and the two adjacent teeth prepped to receive a bridge. They would not let her in the appointment to get the bridge seated untill she paid for the freaking Atridox that she never received! So it's either pay or you can keep your teeth roots exposed and painful like that! The worst office ever. And you think they will do a quality job after they get paid, my wife's teeth still hurt 6 months after the procedure. Do you teeth and your wallet a favour and Stay away from this location.

I wouldn't trust this place. For starters they convinced me to pay for all the services I "needed" prior to being done. This included many fillings, unnecessary oral cancer screening, and unneeded flouride treatment. I spent 3 hours in the office for "my first round" of fillings. I decided not to get the cancer screening aand asked for a refund months ago... Still waiting after asking 3 times for it. Each time being told "they'll write it down". Hmm. So I became suspicious and decided to get a second opinion. Best decision! Turns out, I needed around about 25% of what they said I needed actually done. So now I have to try to get the rest of my money back. Shouldn't be so hard to get a refund, they shouldn't have you pay before you get the service, and it's not okay to advise so many unnecessary treatments.

The $19 X-ray and exam is a great deal. Abby and Kay are very helpful and provided me a lot of tips. It’s a shame that UIUC doesn’t provide any dental plan for undergraduate students, so I had to purchase a separate plan online.

I went in for my 6 month and I didn’t get the cleaning I usually would get at a dentist. Since I have gum disease, I felt they didn’t give me the proper care that I normally expect. But hey, at least no cavities. And staff were very nice and professional and helpful. :)

Extremely disappointed. I got to my appointment 15 minutes early (as this was my first time there), and no one was at the desk. In fact, no one showed up to the desk to talk to me until after my appointment time. I had pre-filled out all the paperwork, and was told to wait. In the meantime, two other patients came in and were taken back. After all of it, they were not able to do the appointment because of a paperwork error on their end. As stated, extremely disappointed and will not return.

I went to aspen dental a few weeks ago to get my last wisdom tooth pulled. And let me start with the girl who took my X-rays. She took more time trying to put on gloves that fit her than she did taking my X-rays. The dental hygienist was great she told me the plan to get my teeth back in shape and I was eager to start. The lady dentist was really nice as well. I was looking forward to working with both of them. I then talk to the “office manager”. He was eager to get me the heck out of the office. I was hoping for that day to get it pulled but no he said they were closed at 1pm. Ok fine. I set up an appointment and they called me and said they had to cancel due to the male dentist being stuck on a flight. Ok I was upset but fine. I went in and they refused to charge my care credit for $161 because I didn’t have $200 on the card? I had $191. I was aggravated so I saved money and called to reschedule. I got another date set and they called me back to tell the the dentist, remember the one who was stuck on a flight? Was going to be gone for a MONTH on vacation! And they couldn’t give me antything for pain because he’s out of the office! I’m done with this place. I’m sure other Aspens aren’t like this. But my experience has been awful. I did give it two stars because the one dentist I talked to was great as well as the dental hygienist.

The Aspen Dental in Champaign is truly a one of a kind dental office. Everybody in the office is so amazingly helpful and kind. From the moment you walk in to the time you spend getting treatment, you feel comfortable and very important. The assistants are very friendly and guide you very well every step of the way. The hygienist is very informative and good at what she does. The dentists are both very informative and gentle in everything they do. I highly recommend this office to everyone looking for a great dental office!

Aspen Dental is a Great place. My son had to have a tooth extracted and was nervous. The staff was very professional and made sure he was comfortable. My son left there with a smile on his face, even after a numb face. Thank you Aspen Dental!
